Students touching/massaging you ...

Post by Admin on Wed Apr 28, 2010 12:43 pm

Quite simple, do you agree with it, disagree or encourage?

For me, it's a big big NO NO.

depending on how they massage you...

Today the M4 students gave me a massage by hitting my neck... I can not see anything wrong with that...

We did have a former student (uni 2 year) that came and gave me a neck massage too, cant see anything wrong with that either...

Dont think of them as nothing but little children who are my friends... NOTHING MORE...

You might be a king or a little street sweaper, but sooner or later you'll dance with the reaper!

I think a lot would depend on their reasons for the contact AND your reaction to it.
Clearly, if you teach more mature students then there is a grey area and you need to be sure there is a line the students dont cross.... and if they do, that you are seen to NOT enjoy it too much!

I find younger students (kindergarten ages etc) are very "hands on" with the excitement of having contact with us. Its a great thing for them to be so close to a farang and be able to hug your leg when they see you. Is that to be taken as "improper contact" on our part?
I've had that happen in front of the students parents. They seem to be happy with the fact that their child a: has contact with us, and b: clearly enjoys being around us

Simple answer really is "Would they do the same with a Thai teacher?"
If not, then it should be seen as a no no to do it to a farang.
