'This is your captain slurring'

Post by Admin on Tue Sep 01, 2009 8:27 am

A pilot got so drunk he LOST the airfield where he was trying to land.
The 65-year-old amateur flyer - four times the driving limit - had to be guided down by a helicopter.

He had been supping beer and wine before take-off - then swigged cocktails in the cockpit. After a two-hour jaunt gazing at the countryside he was too tipsy to read the meters in his Cessna light aircraft. He muttered into his radio to bemused control tower staff: "Come on, I know you're down there. Where the bloody hell have you hidden yourself?" He also sang songs, cracked a mother-in-law joke and told the ground crew: "Pull your fingers out. I've got a party to go to."

The controllers then scrambled the emergency chopper which led the unnamed man back to Schoengleida airfield, eastern Germany. He landed safely, but when the helicopter pilot went to see if he was OK he smelled the alcohol fumes.

Airfield authorities alerted police as he staggered to his car and the sozzled man was stopped and breathalysed as he drove home. He was immediately stripped of his driver's and pilot's licences.
