Toyota on a roll in Thailand

Toyota on a roll in Thailand
Kyoichi Tanada, the new president of Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) has delineated plans to reinforce the car company’s potential, with a goal of blueprinting and manufacturing Toyota cars wholly within Thailand within the next five years.

Mr. Tanada, who took the helm at TMT starting this month, said Toyota Manufacturing Asia-Pacific (TMAP) would assist the Thai production unit to equal all features of Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp (TMC), including tech developments. TMAP, located in Samut Prakan, has been accountable for the engineering and manufacturing aspects of the Japanese automaker’s area business for two years.
Mr Tanada said, “With our 47-year presence here and the quality of Thai engineers, I think we have the capacity to have cars designed and produced completely from Thailand hopefully within five years.”

Toyota’s domestic sales are expected to drop 30% from last year to only about 200,000 units this year, the company will continue its number one position in both passenger car and pickup truck markets. Honda edged ahead of Toyota in sales for one month, but Toyota returned to the top spot in June.

Honda is currently better than Toyota... With my next car I will give you an update...

Last two honda motorcycles that I rode were really bad compared to the Yamaha's... Bigger bikes, well, I don't know but I am sure they are all good...

Looks--> Yamaha R1
Reliability --> Honda VFR

Cost --> Yamaha Mio!

I think Thailand needs a cheap affordable quality car that will offer a superior driving experience to the Japanese tin cans.

Long live the Reliant Robin!

Sure to be a hit here, they love three wheelers!

I personaly hope that there will be no more cars here in Thailand... Think how bad traffic will be with everyone changing their bikes to cars... Sweet mother earth... 5 hours to get home???

Think about the danger of walking outside???

I suggest the only thing for the Thais to do is to LEARN to drive first!

If everyone had cars they would not have to walk and it would be safer! Especially if the was so much traffic the cars could not move.

Guess I would be on a bike then!

BTW... 3 wheeled cars are dangerous when driving fast!

Depends where single wheel is! If the single wheel is at the back they can handle very well. There have been several very exciting three wheel sports cars. The early Morgans were three wheelers.

Not as safe as 3 wheels... When you drive in Thailand you need all the wheels you can get...

Think how cheap it would be at the tire shop... Only 3 wheels..

Keep on Topic...

People all over the world buy a benz because the taxis in europe USE (the rich countries) them, proves that they are reliable...

Why are Thais not buying the Altis in Thailand when it is a taxi???

Because it's a taxi! It lowers the persons status to drive around in something that is seen as a taxi.

Well, all that Thais do is drive people around, just like Taxis...

How come the Camry is a LIMO???

If I ordered a Limo in Europe and got a Camry I would have blown up on the spot...

Probably because here a Camry is the same price as something that might pass for a limo in Europe.

Not really, the camry is not that expensive if compared to norwegian prices...

1.6m would get you a nice camry in Norway too, or a Benz... Or a BMW (If you like tacky)...

Sure keep telling yourself that your old european car is as good as a new jap car... Just because it is not the most stylish car in the world does not mean it is crap!!!

There is a reason why they sell so many cars...

They do also own their own companies.. who owns Bently? or Rolls? or Lotus? or some other company from England?

I am happy with my Jap car, it works well, moves around, keeps me dry, and wait.. I don't have to go and spend 10000B to buy new spare parts, warranty...

Get real... For what you pay for a camry it is cheap... Compare it to a Benz or a Volvo or a VW... They should lower their prices... then I would say that it is better to buy a European car.
